Anna & Micah Abraham

The Purpose of Oak Forest Retreat and Conference Center: Oak Forest is a retreat facility located near Frederic, Wisconsin that offers retreat facilities in a place surrounded by the quiet beauty of God’s creation. Our purpose is to provide a space where people can come relax, refresh, and renew their spirits. We provide our facilities to churches, para-church organizations, and Christian colleges looking to do retreats, conferences, or trainings. Additionally, we support pastors and anyone in a ministry position by providing up to 5 nights free for a quiet personal retreat. These two ministries are ministries of support, encouragement, equipping and sending others out to continue their work for the gospel. Our third ministry is one of outreach. We have many crafting and quilting groups that use our facilities to hold retreats. As part of the contract, if they are not having their own devotional or time of spiritual learning, we provide it for our guests. In this way, we are able to plant seeds of the gospel in the hearts of these guests each day. We’ve heard many stories about members of these groups who are Christian, using our devotionals and testimonies to talk with others in their group while they are crafting and lead them to the Lord.

Our background:

Since college, when Micah began to dive into the world of cooking, God placed it on his heart to be a Missionary Chef. After not finding job results with his initial search, Micah put it in the back of his mind but continued cooking. With his vast experience in various restaurants thoughout Sioux Falls, SD, Micah has grown in both his knowledge of food and kitchen management abilities. In God’s timing, Micah was presented with the opportunity to become Food Service Director at Oak Forest, where he would be able to use his skills to minister to guests.

Throughout her college years, Anna majored in elementary education and spent multiple summers helping at youth camps, mission camps, and serving on mission trips. Though these experiences, God placed a desire in her heart to work in youth ministry or camp ministry. She joined Micah at Oak Forest after her first year of teaching. While her background is with youth camps, the organization, leadership, and planning skills she obtained during her first year of teaching and her desire for other to know the Lord, allow her to minister to guests well.

Our area of responsibility:

As Food Service Director, Micah is responsible for designing menus, cooking meals, tracking inventory, and overseeing the cleanliness and functionality of the kitchen. Micah’s mission is to create an environment that uses food to bring people together around the table for deep conversation and fellowship. He works hard to create familiar meals at an elevated level so that guests can more fully rest and enjoy their time together while feeling served and cared for.

As the Volunteer Coordinator and Administrative Assistant, Anna does a variety of jobs around Oak Forest. She is responsible for finding, training, and maintaining a list of volunteers to help serve guests. Additionally, she works closely with the director to help with paperwork, correspondence, and fundraising projects. All these tasks help the ministry operate efficiently “behind the scenes” so that guest programs can run smoothly.
