Only Jesus Can Derail This Crazy Train Ride
I was getting a long overdue haircut last week and we began discussing the world’s current affairs. I was reminded of the song “Crazy Train" by the great theologian Ozzy Osbourne with the lyrics “Crazy, but that’s how it goes, millions of people living as foes; maybe it’s not too late to learn how to love and forget how to hate”. The song goes on to describe ongoing chaos such as wars and mental illness, causing people to become mentally numb, and concludes by asking the question of who and what’s to blame.
It does feel like we’ve boarded the crazy train where things that used to be common sense are no longer common. We can’t define what a woman is and, in fact, people now argue men can get pregnant which must be a new class in medical school. It certainly wasn’t offered at the University of Illinois when I was attending medical school, or perhaps I missed it when I went to the gym to play basketball with other men.
I think every generation looks back and wishes for the good old days but, as we’ve seen in Ecclesiastes 1:9, “There is nothing new under the sun.” As we’ve seen repeatedly through Scripture, it appears Israel has been on the same crazy train we find ourselves on. It should be noted that, just as it is today, it occurs every time God is removed and attention placed on things of the world. It’s not surprising then that we now find ourselves out in the wilderness, confused and lost over the simple things like what is a woman, and with support heartily supported for abortion now including up through full term in 9 states.
When looking at everything going on, including war, another attempted Presidential assassination and political unrest it would be easy to become numb and complacent. As believers, however, this should not catch us off guard for the Word is very clear stating in 2 Timothy 3:1-7, “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.”
I don’t know about you, but I can find myself in some of the above conditions and am reminded that we are indeed in the end times. As followers of Christ, we are called to get off the crazy train which is the way of the world. Jesus is the only answer to the problem. Although everything looks chaotic, we know that this is temporary in that our future home is eternal where pain, chaos and suffering are gone, and we spend eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. No more crazy train rides for us!
I know that many of you reading this may be suffering with the recent loss of a loved one, marital issues, dealing with a medical illness which may be life threatening or facing a severe financial burden, but I want to conclude by saying that God states in 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”. God’s healing of our land will derail the crazy train once and for all.
