What is Truth? – By Paul Gilbertson

John 4:22-26    22“You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know for salvation is from the Jews.  23But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.  24God is spirit and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”  25The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ).  When he comes, he will tell us all things.”  26Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”

I love these verses because Jesus may as well be talking to any of us.  We know the Messiah has come, but are we willing in our hearts to accept it?  We live in a world now that is inundated with reality TV.  It seems that everybody wants to be in the spot light and anything goes, but we lose focus on what is truth.

We see images that may look real but are only a façade.  Some may follow people that may tickle our ears and hearts but are actually leading us away from the truth.  The only truth that we can cling to is that of Jesus Christ.  I read a book by Ravi Zacharias named Jesus Among Other Gods.  Ravi is from India and has great knowledge of other religions.  In this book, he compares Christianity with the other religions of the world.  What I found interesting was that most religions see Jesus as a great prophet but do not believe he is the Son of God.  You can not call Him a great prophet on one hand and call him a liar on the other.

I find great warmth in knowing that Jesus is truth and that when we worship Him in spirit we worship him in truth.  We can watch all the reality TV we want, but knowing Jesus is the only truth we need.  Our lives should be lived trying to be more like Jesus and less like the fake people we see on TV.

God Bless,

Paul Gilbertson
